  1. I believe the gravel pit scene was filmed at the Vulcan Material Quarry on Rt 17 West of Kankakee IL.

    1. I agree, the Vulcan quarry has to be it. Looking at the arial photos of the site, the railway and buildings match exactly. Coordinates are 41.1006, -88.0011

    2. I know the man who runs the locomotive at Vulcan Materials, he said it was certainly the location because was working the day they were filming.

  2. Exterior of C-Systems is Argonne National Laboratory near Lemont IL. Interior shots are a combination of MWRD Calumet Sewage Plant and MWRD Mainstream pumping station which is 350 ft below grade.

  3. Paul Shannon's Estate is actually Lansdowne Lane, not Cambridge Lane. The picture of the utility van is actually at the garage of the estate.

  4. Was any of the film shot in the Deep Tunnel near Hodgkins? The scene where they are lowered by crane-cage looks familiar. Thanks for a great site.

  5. If memory serves me correctly, house on lake is on Lake Geneva (Wisconsin). Planetarium is also in Wisconsin. Chicago cops working as extras are in both Chicago cop scenes and Wisconsin State Troopers. "Aftermath . . " is an old abandoned steel mill on the lake in south part of Chicago. I think they were demolishing it when location scout found it and asked them to hold off. Gravel pit is Kankakee. Argonne National lab in western suburbs --was used extensively ( Cg- systems, etc). University of Chicago was used for the initial lecture and other early outdoor scenes. By the way, Keanu stood out in the freezing cold to sign autographs at U of C. Pick up scenes of aftermath, when Keanu was looking at explosion, was green screened in one of the steel mill buildings (still standing at that time). They used huge earth moving equipment to bring all the dirt inside because of extreme bad weather. I would have to watch the movie to list all the other scenes in Chicago. Put up pictures of scenes and I will respond to the best of my knowledge.

  7. I’m pretty sure the auditorium that Dr. Barkley is speaking in at the beginning of the film is the theater at The Irish American Heritage Center in Chicago.

  8. No, the auditorium in the opening scene is Mandel Hall at the University of Chicago.
